Gusts of wind, rain and snow caused disruptions while driving through the Las Vegas Valley
A ground stop was in effect at Las Vegas Airport due to windy conditions. Arrivals were delayed an average of at least 15 minutes and departures were delayed at least 30 minutes earlier in the afternoon. One of the strongest wind gusts recorded so far was 53 mph at Harry Reed International Airport.
The NWS warns that gusty winds can blow over loose objects and tree limbs and damage some structures, including potential power outages.
The strongest wind gust of 60 mph was recorded at North Las Vegas Airport, while gusts of 40 to 50 were recorded at Nellis Air Force Base, north of Henderson and north of Pahrump Valley.
Power outages were scattered throughout the valley and at one time affected more than 15,000 NVEnergy customers.
The areas most affected by customers were along East Sahara Avenue and East Charleston Boulevard, as well as in northern Las Vegas.
Also around 11:18 a.m., an accident with an overturned semi-trailer was reported on northern I-15 at Lamb Boulevard, affecting traffic. The truck blocked the left lanes until noon.
Drivers are being asked to be careful as dust and snow blown up by the gusts of wind impair visibility on the roads.
Recent weather is also causing the Southern Nevada Water Authority to urge residents and businesses to skip the next day.
