Today we focus on Mercedes! The team that is most written about and where the most question marks are. The Spanish Grand Prix will lead to a crucial moment of decision for #MercedesF1 about the future of their Formula 1 car - the W13! The most discussed topic at team Mercedes is the problems with porpoising. The German carmaker is struggling to tame the harbor porpoises that have plagued the W13 since the start of the season, leaving the team unable to challenge Ferrari and Red Bull.
As the team searches for answers for weeks, it sees the next F1 race in Barcelona as a key moment in determining the next steps.
As Mercedes drove on track during pre-season testing with its standard sidepod launch specs, the Spanish GP race will give them a golden opportunity to compare the behavior and potential of the different concepts.
Little to no progress has been made so far this year. The pressure is so enormous that Mercedes should move quickly to make decisions. This also applies to whether or not to continue with the Zero-Pod concept.
This week, Toto Wolff was asked if he could rule out the team going back to the launch spec philosophy. His answer was:
“Well I wouldn't discount anything, but we need to give all our people benefit of the doubt.
“They have produced great race cars in the past and we believe that this is the route to go. Barcelona is definitely going to be a point in time where we can correlate with what we saw in February and gather more data.
